The Story Behind the Story

Projects at airports have been a major part of Courtney Kelly's civil engineering and construction management career. When contemplating what topic she wanted to tackle in her next book, it seemed fitting that she make the design and construction of airports the focus. Her latest book offers a glimpse into the fascinating world of what it takes to build runways that will allow society to continue flying high as the demand for aviation travel increases over the course of the next few years.

Additionally, Courtney wanted to highlight pioneers of aviation and aspects of airport operations that are less well-known. Celeste Paves the Way blends all of these together in an entertaining and educational story.

"As a pilot and construction project executive, I truly loved this children’s book about airport runway construction. It beautifully brings to life the teamwork, engineering, and imagination behind what makes flight possible.

Stories like this can spark curiosity early and inspire the next generation to explore STEM in a fun and meaningful way. I was already a fan after the author’s wonderful book about tunnels — and this one is just as heartwarming and inspiring."
